Artist Statement

Art challenges the thought process in an uplifting yet peaceful manner by encouraging the viewer to experience a deeper dimension of consciousness. Stylistically, my work can be described as “pure” abstraction, where meaning is determined by the viewer’s subjective interpretation of the arrangement and relationship between line, shape, color, and space (perspective). Generally, I prefer to work in oils, which take a long time to dry. This choice of materials is a symbol of how I process life. I like to be present in a moment and allow life to flow through me, naturally, rather than rushing through what could be an enjoyable experience. Embodying this presence is the reason why I take long amounts of time blending and assorting colors with a palette knife, rather than a brush. The effect allows the colors to guide me in an intuitive process. The result creates an unspoken dialogue felt, not only between myself and the painting, but also between the audience and the art that serves as a bridge to a deeper awareness of the source of strength within each of us.
